In full transparency, I am exhausted and need a content break. I will pull back from the video podcast, except for unique guests. These will be posted as Bonus episodes. This way I can focus on building my business (ON CAM) Ready and helping you by providing more resources in this weekly newsletter. I will likely pick-up the video podcast more consistently in September.
Meanwhile, one of those Bonus episodes is out this week. I spoke with branding photographer Carley Storm.
1. LEVERAGING YOUR BRAND WITH A VISUAL STORY
Carley Storm and I connected through publicist Juliana Fondacaro. My goal was to talk with Carley before traveling to DC for WHCD events, but my schedule shifted too many times to stick to our discussion plan. So, I am starting this week’s newsletter with more on photography but adding social media tips and branding advice.
Here is a link to out conversation on YouTube!
Attracting opportunity through online branding requires:
Authenticity
Carley suggests you work with a photographer who is willing to put in the work. The photographer is helping tell your story through photos and videos and you need to be “authentic” to help attract. Carley says, “I really need to befriend my clients and get them comfortable and really have their own personality shine and feel comfortable and whatever their personality is. So people are more serious and people are more serious or silly. And I want to make sure that that's really authentic in their photos.”
Personality
Carley notices her social media engagement goes up on Instagram when she posts behind the scenes videos or action images of her photographing a client. You may want to consider her take: “I get more engagement when I have behind the scenes footage of me working and taking pictures, even if you never see the final image on my Instagram, which is funny because it's just a cell phone behind, you know, and it's just B-roll of me working and maybe standing on something and maybe being silly sometimes, like it's authentic, right? So it's a little peek to see what it is to work with me. I take my job seriously, but like not too seriously. It's very fun.”

Carley is based in New Jersey.
2. THOUGHT-LEADERSHIP
I have spoken about Instagram more than other platforms here, I continue to write about it after this thought, too! However, I gain the most engaged followers through LinkedIn! If you have not tried sharing your point of view on LinkedIn or offering your services there, you should!
Last week I spoke with Michael López. He was recently honored with a “LinkedIn Top Voices” badge, and I took notice! So, during our conversation I had to ask, “how do you become a top voice?” Michael didn’t have a specific step-by-step guide, but he suggested leaning into authenticity, here’s that word again!
“My goal has always been to create a different conversation around what’s required to change. I wanted to disrupt the industry. So, it was important to be provocative, yet thoughtful. That required more long-form content that demonstrated my thinking. I wanted readers to really think and challenge themselves. I didn’t want to put out empty cliches. It turns out there’s an audience for this dialogue and content style and I’ve gotten great feedback. My advice to others is to have a clear theme in your point-of-view, then be consistent with your message and format. It must resonate with you first before your audience will believe it. I really do live my life by the principles I write about.”

3. MASTERMIND
I’ve put together a 3-course in-person social media mastermind. In addition to the 3 in-person courses there will be two virtual meet-ups available to questions, guidance, etc. This is my first mastermind.
I am also planning on creating a course for professionals interested in starting to use Instagram for business. Interested? Contact me HERE!
